💷England have averaged 33.2 points per match over their last 10 matches against top opposition and conceded 17.8.

England's attack hasn't been this good over 10 matches since 2019.

The defence hasn't been as good as this since 2021.

🌹England Rugby

Attack: Under Jones good to very good but began to decline 2021 - 2022. Improving again now under Borthwick.

BUT

Defence: Problems started in 2020 and increased to the point where Jones was sacked. Now as bad as it was in the days of Robinson/Ashton/Johnson.

44 shots in PSV v Utrecht on Saturday, 21 on target. 34-10 and 18-3 to PSV.
Final score: 2-2.

Utrecht led 2-1 and also missed an enormous chance (see screenshot) to win it at the end. Went for the near post but put it wide.

The Eredivisie can be wild sometimes.

The #BAFTAs Best Picture award was once considered one of the guides to the #Oscars but not so much in recent years.

In the last 10 years, only Nomadland (2020) & Oppenheimer (2023) have won both.

Producers Guild is 70% in the same period.

Conclave therefore remains an outsider for Best Picture.

Listening to the 20 winners from #5albums70s2 now.

Onto the ninth of the 20 and I am pretty sure that the following will make my final 5 here:

The Who - Who's Next: A masterpiece
ELO - Out of the Blue: Sensationally good for a double album

Wish You Were Here will too for sure.

2 more spots.

For a double album Out of the Blue is sensationally good.

I have no time for the idea of guilty pleasures and all that guff. If you like it, you like it.

Also Lynne is the only one of the Travelling Wilburys not feted as a legend of the music business, which makes no sense.

L'Equipe's team of the week was shared with me by @rugbykino.bsky.social and there is a lot of overlap with our data-driven version which is interesting.

Like I say, I like this approach.

The final Champions League table compared to www.euroclubindex.com rankings.

21 of the 24 highest ranked Euro Club Index teams through.

Brugge (46), Celtic (58) & Brest (63) are the surprises.

6 of the top-8 are in the top-10 of the ECI.

Real, Man City, Bayern & PSG are below expectations.

The Champions League ranking compared to current euroclubindex.com ranks.

3 surprise teams (bold) in the top-8 instead of the expected Real Madrid, Man City & Bayern.

3 surprise teams (grey) in the top-24 instead of the expected Man City, Bologna, RB Leipzig

Something similar happened in last year's #TraitorsUK but then it was the older people who went out.

The second series of the British Traitors began with 13 people who were over the age of 30 (59%) and nine aged 21-30 (41%).

With 8 participants left, 7 were from the younger age group (88%).
January 21, 2025 at 11:06 AM
In this year's Traitors, most of the remaining participants fall into a narrow age band.

The % of participants aged 28-38 has increased from 48% at the beginning to 75% now.

Only Freddie (aged 20) & Francesca (44) have survived the old/young cull

The Scottish Hype Train has been derailed earlier than usual.

Funny angle for the headline here given the Sione Tuipulotu news in the text.

To put this into perspective, Arsenal have supposedly been on a bad run of results.

Taking account of ONLY the last 5 matches:

Arsenal have got 2 points CLOSER to Liverpool

Taken same points as Forest

Taken 2 points fewer than Newcastle (who are 5 behind)

Taken TEN points more than Chelsea
January 16, 2025 at 2:26 PM
So, one of the latest obsessions seems to be to ask if club x is now a Premier League title contender. A few weeks ago it was Chelsea, now it is Newcastle.

At this precise moment in time, the Premier League title race has TWO horses in it - Liverpool and Arsenal.

Liverpool are big favourites.

Haller's transfer prompted me to buy a shirt for the first time in my life. It helped that they were half price with an addition special offer of adding his name and number for free.

Apparently the club have sold 1000 shirts with Haller 91 on the back since he signed a week ago.

Utrecht wins at Feyenoord.

Everything said and written about it says how much better Feyenoord was.

Of course they were, they have about four times the budget of Utrecht.

Misses the point completely. Utrecht played in a way to maximise their chance of victory and pulled it off.

Brilliant.

Listening to the @snob2000.bsky.social which is as good as you'd expect.

Basically the Top2000 but for alternative music fans.

I like both lists for different reasons and I am very glad that we have both.

Here is what is coming up on both.....

Here is that team. The best players from that team, particularly Frenkie de Jong but also a number of others, are not at Manchester United.

In fact, I thought All of Us Strangers was so good that it came out at #1 of every film I have seen in 2024, from this year or any other.

In total I saw over 180 (my list isn't quite finished) and my rank order of them is on my Letterboxd page: letterboxd.com/simongleave/...
