Joining the chorus here: your integrity and honesty make you an invaluable presence, even more so in contrast to the bad faith trans panicmongering subculture that still claims dismayingly many followers. When I see something scary making the rounds I always check your feed or new work to verify.

This is not meant to judge anyone on here, necessarily, but the fact that AI stuff elicits a _huge_ reaction relation to your typical scientific publishing fare is definitely teaching Springer-Nature a thing or two.

Having done my share of psych epi, I can assure you “no formal Dx” and “no prior engagement in care” =/= “no mental health problems,” but I suspect that’s the assumption underlying this recent spate of news articles.

Hello! I also do this. I hate it. I catch myself looking back on surgery recovery because I’ve never quite been as relaxed (without guilt).

Pink News is churny cynical viralbait that does us all more harm than good, not “news” in any real sense.

I used to be a production editor. The print runs on the later books, when HP was already a phenomenon, were so massive they sucked manufacturing capacity out of the whole sector and every other publisher had to schedule their warehouse dates around HP.

The first came out when I was 12 or so and I dismissed it as kid shit back then (I could be a bit of a snot but I was right). Couldn’t imagine Millennials would still be clinging to that shit in middle age.

Tediously humiliating to be a trans HIV researcher who has to look at this shit constantly (interspersed with broken links) while I’m just trying to do my job.

She has imbibed deeply of a very specific strain of Susan’s List Blanchard-worshiping trans woman self-hatred. I see her as a cautionary tale of transness without queerness. But she is truly an example of how any given vector of oppression can create pretenses for why we (never she) deserve it.

I grew up in the city, and the one Halloween I spent with a suburban friend we went “trick-or-treating” in a minivan roving around some McMansion development. Awful. But still better than a _parking lot_.

iirc (too much Clearsky is bad for the soul) I’m simultaneously on a “cool people” and “shitty vibes” list.

And as jarring as the ship’s log on CD-R is - there are actually big silly touchscreen tablets on the ship! It’s not “realistic,” but it’s not as cringily dated as the shot of the ~30 disc trays on the Event Horizon.

One thing that struck me during this viewing is that the H-word isn’t spoken until _well_ into the third act.
