Even using wood as siding is considered tricky. Instead lengthening overhang architects and engineers rather rely on technical fabrics, brick and plastics for siding. This mental shift that we must build differently, not just by buying a different bag of something at the builders merchant isn't easy

Yes, it incentives an economy of shared profit instead of concentrated profits. So the only way forward in my view is cooperation between farmer, builder and consumer. Not only our environment would benefit but also our societies.

Democratizing the economy is not in the interest of large producers of building materials, retaining their position is. So jumping into something that can be produced with less tech is a tricky affair for dominant forces in the industry

The focus on mobility and heating probably comes from the sexyness of the tech. Heat pumps and EVs fit the tech discourse. Mud, straw and reeds don't appeal to technocrats. Biobased materials offer a more democratic business model and less of a chance to a oligarchic model.

Well, I've noticed some change in the availability of bio based building materials in NL. When I started my renovation it required finding some niche distributor, and now some mainstream companies start offering bio-based insulation materials. The change is minimal, but it is happening.
