“Given that Brighton must have the greatest number of photographers after London, I find it astonishing that there has never been an active photography-related centre with a gallery, library and place for photographers to meet. All the more reason to support this endeavour!”

A daily photograph looking out to sea from Brighton, which I began on 19 March 2020 when the Covid-19 lockdown in the UK was announced, and continued almost daily for a year.

It’s always rewarding to see a large Daidō Moriyama photograph in the flesh. This one is titled ‘Artificial Underwater Flower, 1990’.
Moriyama fans amongst you will spot one of his famous grid installations reflected in the back of this image.

Another one from Seville- a monumental structure made from clay, sand, hay and spices by the Columbian artist Delcy Morelos installed inside the Cartuja monastery in the grounds of the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporaneo.

I’m working in Seville for a few days and had time to dive into the Royal Alcazar (Reales Alcázares de Sevilla) palace, which has a stunning mix of European and Islamic and architecture. Portraying how a potpourri of cultures seemingly coexisted.

I took this photograph of a Syrian family enjoying a picnic in the peaceful setting of Munich’s English Garden. It was 2016 and they had recently fled Assad’s brutal war, finding refuge in Germany. This is what immigration often looks like; not something to be feared.
