A typical sandstorm in #Rukban #Syria. Up to 50.000 internally displaced people lived in this no man's land from 2016 until earlier this year. It's hard to imagine how they could survive in such isolation, forgotten and ignored by everyone.

This barren area of the #Syrian desert was home to an informal settlement of up to 50,000 displaced people at its peak. The #Rukban (‘berm’) camp was never recognized by the #UNHCR and received minimal assistance. It's hard to imagine how people survived there for so many years.

7 trucks set out last week to transport the remaining families from #Rukban. Residents of the town of Al Quaryatayn* donated to cover the costs. – As always, the people of Rukban can only rely on themselves without any support from international or local organizations. 💔
