Yeah my first thought was that he felt he was at risk of being sent back to be tortured and felt he had nothing left to lose

My first thought even before this particular fact came out was that it was someone who had worked with US forces and was now under threat of being sent back to be tortured. Nothing more volatile than a man with nothing to lose.
