International Jewel Thief.
Is that the spiders one? I liked the series with the spiders, although some of his other work is too fantasy for my tastes.

Supermarket staff got paid weekly in cash in 87. I used to go out with the girl who made up the pay packets.

Maybe the management got fancy bank transfers...

Oh sure.

I'm to old too want to photo journal my life, but that does sound a bit neurotic for someone that does.

Would be a two hour commute just to get to your place for a start.

We already know that's not how Meta views it.

Feels slightly bizarre that you'd expect to post pictures of your partner in public.

Vampires in media from non Christian cultures frequently do the whole "vampire laughs at cross, bites wielder" quite pointedly.

Tho I've seen one Japanese film where the "true cross" is a magical flail on an extending chain that flies out and cuts the vamps heads off, so it's not all negative.

I've had some shocking conversations with 1st & 2nd generation immigrants about immigration, so I don't think you can completely discount that she may simply be saying what she thinks.

In Japanese: 火山 - fire mountain.

It worked out for a while but then we left the EU and the main source of junior staff dried up.

So now there is an entire extra layer of work visa admin to go through and the hiring process takes an extra 3 months.

And in the mean time expensive contractors & senior staff pick up the slack.
November 17, 2025 at 1:53 PM
There's is a future problem with that model though. Some junior professional roles are almost impossible to hire for because, the entire industry having decided to not hire bright zero experience kids, there's no-one with 12-24 months experience to employ.

Hmmm. Bubbles don't collapse in a predictable way, but it is a bubble which must collapse in a spectacular way because that's what bubbles do.

It's fine to not like the phrase, I was just saying "fell over" and "a fall" are significantly different events. To have A Fall, is to fall in a life threatening situation.
November 15, 2025 at 4:25 PM
More likely to than 'fell over' TBH. Had a fall on mont blanc... Yeah sound fine.
November 15, 2025 at 2:13 PM
I'm not sure they do.

Falling over normally implies an ability to get up again.

Had a fall implies they had to use the emergency call button and wait 3 hours until the paramedics arrived to assess their possibly broken hip.

An IT professional with perfect spelling and grammar? I guess it must be possible...

Every candidate who's CV reads like it was written by AI makes my heart sink because they never have the skills listed.

A slightly awkward sentence, a typo or two, or just naff formatting has become the sign of someone who knows what they're doing.

The days late, but, there's a huge thing on Japanese YouTube with AI generated videos about Americans moving to Japan and finding out how wonderful it is.

Obvious AI slop, typically getting 800k+ views.

My guess is that telling people how great they are / noticing things about them sells.

Happens a lot, not sure it's got worse though.

It's got cameras now, but before that the police did one of their traffic things at a local cross roads pulling over red light jumpers. They were flagging them down, and had parked maybe a dozen offenders in a side road when I passed.
