All things related to the Great Outdoors: being in it, growing stuff in it, reading about it, looking at it, listening to it, mainly UK. Especially birding, ecology, my garden. Originated in Sussex, now happily Norfolk based.
Happy to be back doing my WeBS count at 'Salthouse West' after a leave of absence, family matters and Covid keeping me away. Thanks to Chris Gooddie for covering! Smashed the sector Teal count today but Lapwing count was well down, serenaded by Pink-footed Geese flying over #norfolkbirding

Sparrowhawk in the snow looking intently at the birds around our feeders, she flew towards them but I didn’t see if she got her breakfast or not! #norfolkbirding

Fantastic to see many Peacock and other butterflies on the well named ‘Butterfly Bush’, so different to 2024 #ukgardening

The beautiful blue of chicory flowers makes it one of my favourites, this one adorned with a smart hoverfly Eupeodes sp.

As expected, very dry on ‘Salthouse West’ for the June WeBS count today. Spoonbill, Great White Egret and Med Gull livened things up, rain dancer needed #norfolkbirding

Cannas are doing well this year! Got off to a good start in the greenhouse, and now with plenty of water and seaweed feed weekly, looking good, 3 pots of many spikes, started with one spike 5 years ago #ukgardens

Fantastic to see Norfolk’s first breeding Ospreys for c250 years, Ranworth Broad, distant but an occasional small head seen from the 2 chicks #Norfolkbirding

A local patch walk early this morning. Yellowhammers back on territory along the 'Green Lane' and Stonechat, a patch tick. First Chiffchaff of the year, probably overwintering and Song Thrush belting out its song, complete list on BirdTrack #NorfolkBirding @birdtrack.bsky.social @nenbc.bsky.social

After a few days away on elderly parent duties, I was welcomed home by this handsome Sparrowhawk in the garden. He was fixated on looking in the hedge from many angles, eventually a blackbird broke cover and got away. Think it’s a 2cy male and def hangry #norfolkbirds

The Great Crested and Slavonian Grebe cousins at one of my favourite places, Hickling Broad. Always good to be out with partner Mick, he has a camera and I am not a photographer, apart from habitats using phone camera! #norfolkbirding

A grey and chilly morning for my Feb WeBS count at 'Salthouse West', Norfolk. Not helped by leaving one of my gloves in the car. Fair number of Wigeon and Teal plus Turnstone, Black-tailed Godwit, Dunlin, Curlew. Raptor action from Marsh Harrier, Red Kite and Merlin @btobirds.bsky.social #UKBirding

Local patch, Southrepps Common, Norfolk. A small patch of valley fen, SSSI for botanical features. Siskin vocal this morning and 2 Lesser Redpolls first for the year (not many this winter). Best of all a Raven over! #lowcarbonbirding #UKbirding @nenbc.bsky.social

A glorious morning in the Norfolk Broads, couldn't find the Bewick's Swans near Ingham (went the wrong way) but made up for it with a Great Northern Diver and Great White Egret at Barton Broad, which is great! #UKBirds
