The topic would require far more than 4,000-5,000 words. My article has a limited scope (e.g., it mostly focuses on Idlib in recent years). It's a preliminary contribution to a topic that needs to be expanded — hopefully, in the future other articles will address other angles

In particular, I contend that in recent years — and especially between 2020-2024 — HTS’s own evolution and the Salvation Government’s experience in Idlib have fostered a “diversification” of their potential local audience &/or base of support

In this article for the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI), I try to bridge the past & the present, looking at the former revolutionary factions, with a focus on what used to be HTS and its ‘popular incubator’ — i.e., its (actual/potential) base of support

Revolutionary factions dissolved at the end of January. Syria has entered its post-revolutionary stage, with a new transitional government. However, looking at patterns of change emerged within revolutionary milieu over past years is crucial to understand nowadays’ political developments
