We’re revisiting Marvel comics from the ‘60s to the 80s - reading them on our own, then talking through what we loved, what confused us, and everything in between. Not experts, just fans enjoying the ride.
Episode 39 just went live, hope some of you can hang out with Scott and I as well talk about Silver Age Captain America and the Red Skull. www.podbean.com/eas/pb-4zcky...

The King of Wakanda joins the Silver Age! Scott and I talk about the Black Panther’s first appearance and what made him stand out right from the start.

I just pulled my back out and am in a fair amount of pain. Why? Because I had the audacity to think I could simply stand up when getting out of my chair. Getting old seriously sucks.

After our recording Scott laid out some of his recent finds from our towns new local comic shop. He is like a kid … he gets so excited!

This is Scott’s well loved copy of “Origins of Marvel Comics” that he often has at our recording.

Ugg... silly artists always inserting themselves into the story! Sorry Mr. Romita, nothing is going to take our attention away from the fact that Ben is wearing a 'Thing' suit!

How did I not know about this gem?!

I love Marvel Unlimited, but you just don't find these little gems when perusing the old stuff. Scott and I are big fans of Sal.

A little Epic marketing department intrusion. SSM 74.

Working on our most recent podcast recording. Seems like it might be a long one. Also, a not so subtle clue as to what Scott and I will be discussing. 🙂

This week we step away from the comics to talk about The Fantastic Four: First Steps. We had a ton of fun talking about it and hope you do too!

Scott and I return to the world of Alpha Flight for part two of our conversation about the first twelve issues of the series, and the ‘return’ of Guardian immediately after.

While doing a little (very little) research for our next episode, I came across a couple of items I found interesting.

Byrne draws the Bullpen Bulletin, which I have to fully agree with. 9/1983

The newsletter page just prints the names of those that wrote in following the first issue. Nice!

Who had these as kids? Scott did but alas, I did not.

Found this little Bullpin gem regarding two of my favorite artists. July 1969.

When Alpha Flight launched in the 80s, what was your reaction? Were you excited by the idea or skeptical about a new team from Canada? I’ve been reading through the first 12 issues and I’m curious what people thought at the time, or how it reads now if you’re revisiting it.

This week, Scott and I take on Alpha Flight. It’s part one of our look at John Byrne’s Canadian super team. This was a childhood favorite of mine and a first-time read for Scott.

Scott and I picked some of the Marvel comics that hit us hardest as kids. Spider-Man, Iron Man, Cap, monsters, Conan, and more. We talk about why they mattered then and how they feel now. Which ones mattered to you?
