This, from the article, summarizes my position beautifully. I’ve learned so much about the actual game from more technical presentations, but then I’m a hard core fan. More casual fans will be interested in less technical shows. There is room for both types.,

Here’s a kind of roadmap of the Discworld books to help you navigate. It is often recommended that people choose an arc to begin with. I personally prefer to begin with the witches arc, the city watch arc, or the Death arc.

In the fantasy genre, however, often satirical, I recommend Terry Pratchett’s Discworld universe. Maybe begin with Small Gods, a standalone novel. If you like that, proceed with one of the arcs. I know the witch’s arc was mentioned to you, but the Death arc is priceless. Arc map from @rincewind.run

Small Gods is a great place to start the Discworld universe. It’s a standalone as well as being such a good book.

If you ever want to start one or more of the sub-series in the universe, this chart from Micah (@rincewind.run), who runs this feed, may help:

If you’d ever like to give it another shot someday, there are other Discworld titles that might give you an easier time. You might try Small Gods (a standalone) or, for the series experience, there are a few series in the Discworld universe. This chart from Micah (@rincewind.run) can help you.

I can’t find the link to an official copy of this chart but it’s the one Micah (who runs the Discworld feed here) uses to help readers find which book to start with and to read next. Guards, Guards is a good starting point for a series, as is Mort, as is Equal Rites or Wyrd Sisters.
