I'm a 48-hour audio storytelling competition held twice a year in NEW YORK CITY (http://www.sonicdash.nyc)
We were very impressed with the audio production on this one, especially the bleeps and bloops. Hey, sometimes those ornamentations really make a piece!

Mark Angly is a sonic storyteller and educator who loves science-fiction, so the "TMI" prompt naturally prodded him to questions about the post-human condition.

This is just a lovely piece about transitioning and how friendships endure and grow in the process. Always impressive when teams can find the 'right-size' idea for a sub-two-minute entry.

This team did a wonderful job of portraying what it is like to be overwhelmed by internal and environmental factors without making the piece itself overwhelming. Screaming children sound kinda good here!

Julie bravely put an actual Hinge date on the spot to record her Sonic Dash entry, likely ruining her chances with him but making it to the finals with us!

Pay attention to the rhythmic weave between the subject's inner thoughts and field recording. These two say they don't have much experience with audio editing, but both happen to be musicians and writers. This served them well, I think!

Henry (the sound designer of the three) happened to be at the beach during the dash. He contrasted what he recorded there with sounds he picked up while wandering around his house with a contact microphone… air purifier, trash compactor, sodamaker, to name a few. Neat!

Scot Maupin is an Oakland-based podcaster who found himself following a lot of tried-and-true methods for bringing his piece to life. Except the music -- Scot had to make the music from scratch for this, so he had to teach himself some things.

Fortunately, Jacki countered this with her usual artful production. Good news for her Adele film: Jacki has a great instinct for pacing and successfully landing a piece with unusual rhythms.
