npm itself is just… not good enough — barely readable peer dependency mismatch messages, insufficient support for workspaces, "npm update" does not update package.json etc.

I like to use pnpm wherever I can, its DX is so much better.

As for code review it depends on the culture, but I've never witnessed one that skips that part, so that's why I considered payoff to be immediate. I thought it meant that teams didn't need (much) convincing.

But my sample is just a fraction of a fraction.

When working by yourself git indeed pays off quite late, but when collaborating and merging parallel work together… I would consider that immediate.

But if the premise is that we all start collaborating much later, then I would agree — git pays off later.

The value of git and code reviews is immediate. I learned testing in OSS because the value of testing there is immediate as well — libraries can't afford to be wrong.

But within web app teams you have QA testers, writing tests seem almost superfluous! …until the ones you did write prove you wrong 😄

API designer, tooling expert (building, linting, formatting etc.)… and probably a few more roles.

Thankfully, I knew about a not-so-official service shop where the person figured out that only the cable was faulty.

Otherwise I would have spent so much money buying an entire charger online to replace a perfectly functioning charger because of incompetent resellers.

I'm so fucking pissed off. I went all over the city for nothing, I didn't even bother to call in advance because I thought that it was a sure thing.

It turned out that the problem was my cable, not the entire charger, but none of them tried or wanted to help, they were completely useless.
