It’s so hard to hold this permission for ourselves. Creative work is beautiful and sincere because it is full of self-doubt. Right now it’s so important to hold that permission for one an other, to hold one an other up against these waves of information so determined to beat us down.

Without their reflections there is only darkness. Times like these are the times when creative work is most important. Keep writing, keep painting. Keep protesting and raging. Keep making frivolous shit that gave you a small joyous meditation in its crafting.

When my peers began discussing their trepidation in continuing their work in these times… it becomes so clear to me, how much their work breathes life into our current cultural climate. They are writing poems that witness our pain, documenting the Anthropocene with pigment, carving hope into clay.

I believe when art is practiced in a vulnerable way.. there is a very overwhelming feeling of uncertainty. “Who am I, to get to do this work?” We have been trained to see creativity as an extra curricular, a bonus activity. We only get to pursue it when all other homework is done. When things are ok

Something that came up for us, is how difficult the word “prolific” is to visualize, recite, or write over and over again.. in a time when so many just simply want “enough” We are witnessing the decline of our nation at the hands of a few men who are consumed by greed.
