Got 2 years out of Genshin Impact, where I'd play everyday. Had to stop once it felt like a second job. I got hundreds of hours out of GI so I don't regret my time.

I feel like you both are doing the show a disservice by trying to map the Hive 1 to 1 to AI. The Hive is trying to please Carol, but it's still a living being with personhood and freewill (putting aside its biological imperative) that AI does not possess.

Just because you don't enjoy it doesn't mean other people don't. My only experience with gacha was playing Genshin Impact for about 2 years. I played it cause it was fun and I stopped playing when it wasn't fun anymore. Gacha can be predatory in its business but a lot of people enjoy it responsibly.
