Christian | Exploring faith through and beyond the Quaker silence | A nuisance to the Church of England | Former physicist | Massive geek 🏳️‍🌈❤️🕯️
I'm currently reading John M. Hull's 'What Prevents Christian Adults from Learning?'

This book is full of really insightful gems.

In the wider quote, he suggests this means Christian learning often happens in rare moments of creativity, rather than through the week-by-week life of the church.

On a friend’s recommendation, I just watched Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)

A lovely stop-motion film with such a charming story. The animation is utterly beautiful, it's intricate, flowing, full of expression down to the smallest facial movements

I believe that Queries are one of Quakerism’s gifts to the wider Church.
Fun fact: I once shared some of my favourite Quaker queries with my Anglican spiritual director, and she warmly thanked me for passing on “these Quaker guidelines”.
Which was slightly jarring and I couldn't quite describe why.

Is this really news? Because frankly, I'm confused all the time.

I went to see the 2024 film Touch at the cinema last week. And I'm still thinking about it.

Here's a proper review if you're interested: www.rogerebert.com/reviews/touc...

A quote I love from Thomas Kelly's A Testament of Devotion.

Whether we call it the Christ Within or the Spirit, the Light calls us to live more wholly, more lovingly, from the inside out.

Returning again and again to that still centre, where love begins again.

Went to see 28 Years Later today, really great. Still letting it simmer, and excited for the next one… but what was with those cartoonish spines?

I just re-read The Tombs of Atuan, and wow. You remember how good Le Guin is but then you dive back in and rediscover it all over again. The way she gets inside a character’s head and lets you truly see them. The way she writes places, bringing them to life like characters. Just wonderful.

I talk about how much I love the three-strand spiral representing Father, Son, and Spirit that appears through many of the 12 panels. Timely as yesterday was Trinity Sunday.

Here’s the Sabbath panel, bringing together elements from the other days of creation with the spiral in the background:

Through the Ascension, the incarnation continues. Jesus didn't shed his humanity or body, he bears it into the heart of God. That shapes how we pray, worship, and live as disciples.

Plus, there’s some truly fascinating ascension art out there, some more Monty Python-esque than others...

Today is Ascension Day. I love it!

An underrated gem in the church calendar. The Ascension speaks deeply to the Kingdom, Church, Trinity, and our relationship with Jesus - both eternally and in the here-and-now.

Re-reading Asimov’s Foundation trilogy—funny how different scientific disciplines play out:
1st Foundation—scientists, traders, empire-builders: future science, same job, better tools
2nd Foundation—psychologists: hidden architects of history, nearly psychic, shaping fate

There's something a little symbolic about a rosary breaking on Holy Saturday.

It was the first one I ever bought - bit of a cheap one because I wasn't sure I wanted to commit to the practice.

I found all the pieces (it's a smaller Anglican Rosary ✝️), so I can mend it.

Just finished the last episode of Wheel of Time… AHHHHHH! There NEEDS to be a Season 4. You can't just leave me here with so many unanswered questions! So many loose threads in the pattern!

I mocked up a quick logo on Canva - for giggles - and now I can’t decide if it looks like I'm launching an eco-fashion brand rather than a blog...

Tomorrow's lectionary reading always makes me chuckle, given a modern meaning of fox:

"‘Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.’ He said to them, ‘Go and tell that fox for me, “Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work”

I was on a course last night on salvation where the idea of seeing ourselves as God sees us came up. It reminded me of that Ignatian practice of stepping back and noticing the place where you’ll pray before sitting down. Imagining how God sees you. It's awkward at first, but surprisingly powerful. ✝️

Gone down a rabbit hole watching cobblers resole boots on YouTube. The slow, careful peeling away of the old sole, the neat stitches pulling everything back together, scuffed leather getting buffed into something almost new—it’s weirdly soothing. Just quiet methodical restoration one step at a time.

I have made my own homemade lemoncello! There's a slight bitter after-taste as I left the lemon peel infusing for far too long, but it's not overwhelming. Still nice :)

Reading 'The Eye of the World' after watching two seasons of Amazon’s 'Wheel of Time', and I’ve never been more frustrated on behalf of a fictional character than Moiraine.

Gandalf never had to deal with this nonsense from kids!

Finally emerged from a ten-day storm of relentless migraines. The clouds have cleared, and I’m feeling human again!

This line really jumped out at me from Morning Prayer today and stuck with me.

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 27:13 ✝️
