I often say asking questions of these companies is like carefully crafting wishes for a genie. You’ll get whatever can be construed as was you asked for!

It’s so unfair that the dead can’t return to scold us.

Despicable. And in further defense of Mamdani, the race options on the application likely aligned with the ones in the US census. Outside the US questions like these are often more focused on where you are from, not your genetic background.

We were so eager for this to be a movie that we forgot killers generally aren’t rational, principled people

Right. If the kids were already doing well, you wouldn't expect significant mental health improvement. Interpreting that finding as a failure of the treatment is in bad faith

"This study thus suggests that remote dispensing of abortion drugs by mail, common carrier, and interactive computer service is depressing expected birth
rates for teenaged mothers in Plaintiff States". As a public health agency, I sincerely hope the FDA response is "yes...that was the point"

Was just going off about this today. We have to stop being shocked and appalled when companies do horrible shit and accept they will do whatever they are allowed to do that will make them money. So we have to stop allowing them to do it!

Disgusting. We toured Monticello recently and the guide was fantastic, making sure we never forgot these facts. Some in our group became visibly disgruntled and confronted him afterwards. He was very patient and very firm with them. I'm sure they're trying their best to shut that down too.

Hahaaaa yes I made it on Jeopardy a while back and everyone was like wow you must be a very disciplined studious person and...no. No I am not.

I was raised by a WASP and a child of eastern European immigrants. My WASP mom would never have demanded shoes off from guests (even though it was the norm in our house normally). My dad was way less worried about offending people with basic requests!

Speeding alone does not cause fatal car crashes only because multiple things contribute to a crash. Speeding plus child darting out. Speeding plus slick road. Speeding plus drunk. Speeding plus distracted. Speeding plus car ahead stops unexpectedly. None of this invalidates speeding as a root cause.

And it's not as though they use that feedback to make positive change. It's not like they're going to start using higher quality sock materials.

You are 100% correct, you can't validate a model using the data you used to build it; similarly you also can't make up data to validate anything. The only way to generate data perfectly representative of the real world would be a perfect model...

Hahaha so she got her own students arrested in an attempt to appease Congress and they're going after her anyway. Hopefully other universities take note

Yup. In my case, I found to my dismay that I simply could not create a daily routine without the structure of going to the office. Turns out that was the stick propping up my "I'm fine, nothing to see here!" facade

The technical definitions of these words don't matter - what matters is whether using the words advances our goal of stopping the atrocities. Which may depend on the audience and the desired action.

Wonderful. Will be sharing with my team. I see a LOT of that thing you describe with people deep in the weeds of a project producing documents that make no effort to orient or engage the reader. And I have used the same "it's not a mystery novel" line!

I understand what you're saying, I just don't agree with you. And while I sympathize with the frustration of seeing people seemingly caught up in pointless nonsense while the world burns, scolding is not, in my experience, effective
