2/3 Marine life under severe threat.🐟

What we're losing:

🔹 Corals are already bleaching
🔹 Species are migrating north.
🔹 Food chains are collapsing.

But there's still hope. Staying within 2°C is possible - if countries cut emissions 6% annually from 2030.

3/3 Without these upstream measures, we're only treating the symptoms while the plastic flood continues to grow. With plastic production potentially tripling by 2060, we cannot afford to miss this opportunity. We need a strong and ambitious Global #PlasticsTreaty now.

3/3 #OceanCare, together with partners from
@breakfreefromplastic.org movement, continues to advocate with full commitment in Geneva that scientific evidence, not industry interests, should guide the negotiations. We need a strong global plastics agreement to finally stop the #plastic wave.

2/3 But here's what matters: #restoration and #remediation must be carried out in an environmentally sound manner. We advocate for ecosystem-based approaches that protect marine habitats rather than causing additional harm.

5/5 This week will be intense and will determine whether we get a treaty that truly "turns off the pipe" and restores ecosystems. 🌿🌊

Large-scale ocean cleanup operations may sound impressive, but they're expensive, often ineffective, and can harm marine #wildlife. Real #remediation means restoring entire marine ecosystems through science-based approaches, not spectacular tech-fixes.
