In Mourning - The Immortal
In Mourning - The Immortal
This dreamy black metal just stands out from so many of it's peers.

They can speak to death metal fans as well as to more experimental people. But the traditional metal fan will also find solace in their catalogue.
Do the discography yourself: it is an amazing journey.

Ascension
Very organic production. I see a resemblance with Icon. Unlike Obsidian, this one is more 'together'. Strong songwriting, vocal styles weaving, and a very prominent Greg. Drumming back to simplified levels, very effective.
Fav: Salvation , but overall great.

Obsidian
Ecclectic in PL terms. They throw everything into the mix. Songwriting is superb and the grit is exchanged for a deep and heavy guitarsound. Very gothic.
Favs: Ghosts, Devil Embraced. But there's not a bad song on the record.

Medusa
Gritty guitars from the debut return. Heavy as a ton of bricks. Very gloomy, less 'gothic', a remarkable album but it doesn't really speak to me. Nick growls like mf, that's for sure.

A change of sound. Heavier and the vox are growling again. Songwriting is not their best. The fascination is the heaviness. Fav: An Eternity Of Lies

Tragic Idol
Overall a better album than the previous. Heavy with traditional metal influences. Erlandsson on board brings very dynamic drumming. Songwriting is very good, though less 'Paradise Lost' than the other 'In Between' albums (3/3)

FDU, DUU
A few great songs, but otherwise an album that lacks direction. The drumming is very 'busy' (session drummer used).
Fav: title track, Last Regret.
An 'In between' album 2/3

In Requiem
This starts off real good, but dies down towards the end. Great drumming by Singer. Heavier than it's predecessor.
Fav: In Requiem, Ash & Debris, Praise Lamented Shade.
Start of the 'in between albums' 1/3

Paradise Lost
Profoundly amazing. Their best ever. Not a fan of these never ending cd's. And this one contains maybe 3 songs too much. Everything else is FAV. Over The Madness! That solo!
And Holmes' vocal lines are fantastic.
Aaand: Jeff Singer is on board!
