“Wow! Fantastic! Real fame at last! Fancy being in a Gary Larson cartoon!”

Amidst so many wonderful tributes to Jane Goodall, I thought I’d share this delightful detail for anyone else who grew up admiring her, and Gary Larson’s Far Side brilliantly bonkers cartoons

Decided to go all-out and make a fancypants salad for lunch today 👩‍🍳

(That would be Stilton blue cheese, pomegranate seeds, walnuts, lentils, Kalamata black olives, celery, tomato, spinach, olive oil and vinegar) #FoodSky 🥗

Love this 🥰 My other half was a committed dog person too (and allergic to cats) but immediately bonded with our hypoallergenic fur ball when we met her

Our beloved feline monster turns five this year, here’s a few snaps of her from late summer/early autumn in 2020 when she was only a few months old (and already wreaking havoc 🫠)

Happy #caturday to all who observe 🐈‍⬛

Think I may have been a little over-optimistic when soaking these garbanzos/chickpeas overnight.

We’re only a household of two (plus a deeply carnivorous feline)

Congrats, Damian 👏👏👏 (spotted it while I was browsing in Newcastle Waterstones recently!)

If you happen to see the September issue of @bylinetimes.bsky.social make sure you grab a copy 💁‍♀️

Replete with top-notch investigative reporting, this month’s edition also features a new ‘Diaspora Dinners’ column in which I share a 🇳🇴Norwegian recipe for a simple, yet delicious hot-smoked trout dish🐟

Thank you! My other half already treated me to a pre-birthday brunch yesterday at Ottolenghi in Hampstead. Delicious eggs and pancakes FTW. If I can get my work done in time today we may sneak into Soho for a bowl of Koya udon noodles, followed by gelato at Gelupo 🎉

It’s my birthday and yes, I would quite like an adult-sized version of this shirt with Snoopy playing tennis, please and thank you. (

Why yes, FT Weekend, we started our weekend thinking. We also started it with a passion fruit + white chocolate donut (from local north London favourite: Bread by Bike) 🧡

What a treat it was to interview Felicity Cloake about her new book ‘Peach Street to Lobster Lane’ at The Owl Bookshop 🦉

We covered American literature, food and history, and the audience asked great questions!

An evening to savour, and a reminder that America is endlessly fascinating 🇺🇸

Late to this. Been meaning to see ‘The Ballad of Wallis Island’ since it was released in the spring and we finally saw it last night.

If you’re in need of enchantment and a little light relief right now go see this film 🎶

The album is great too 💁‍♀️

Doh. A booking link would have been useful. Need that second cup of coffee this morning (ideally with a Dunkin’s donut 🍩)

Come join us on Tuesday, support local authors and local bookstores in London! 💁‍♀️

Londoners: If you’re in town next week come along to the truly excellent Owl Bookshop in Kentish Town where Felicity Cloake and I will be in conversation about her epic journey in search of real American cuisine. A bargainous £6 a ticket, what’s not to love about that? 🇺🇸

This is the fourth summer my parents have planted sunflowers as a small act of solidarity with Ukraine, and the sunflowers stand tall and proud much like Ukrainians in the face of ceaseless Russian brutality 🇺🇦🌻

Gorgeous red poppy spotted on a long walk over the weekend. Reckon O’Keefe would have stopped to gaze at it too 🎨

Hah, just reading it now 😉

Happy Friday wherever you are. And a special mention to this delightful bee, who flew out of my swimsuit just as I was getting changed (the suit had been drying outside after my last swim) - a lucky escape for both of us! 🐝

Ps. If you have a glut of strawberries right now the Bircher müesli is especially delicious when you include them. I mashed the berries, added grated apple, a handful of oats, chia seeds, used a combo of kefir and Greek yoghurt and sweetened with a little honey 💁‍♀️

Can’t wait to interview food writer Jenny Linford, author of a brilliant new book REPAST: THE STORY OF FOOD and British Museum Southeast Asia curator Alexandra Green next Monday, the 30th June. Do join us on this food journey through space and time! #London

Midsummer morning on Hampstead Heath. No photos allowed at the Kenwood Ladies Pond, but two girlfriends and I wore our solstice crowns while swimming and everyone was in high spirits. Almost like being back in Scandinavia! 🌅

Brushed the cat, been for a walk in the sun and now settling down with coffee and the FT Weekend before going for a midsummer swim 🥰Happy summer solstice to all! 🌅
