[bridged from https://fosstodon.org/@signaleleven on the fediverse by https://fed.brid.gy/ ]
I landed on fosstodon about a year ago, looking for a long-term, stable instance.

I care about the health of the fediverse at large and I tend to assume good faith, reject pitchfork mentality and...wait things out a bit.

But because of the impending (ongoing?) defederations and the fact that […]

Me watching #bluesky go down today despite being “decentralized”: haha, actual decentralized services have no problems.

Me watching other instances prepare to block #fosstodon: oh.

[Fosstodon shitstorm]

Yeah, the more I dig the more the early defence looks bad. I'm sure it came from a position of good faith. But... Yeah. No.

Specifically, I thought this exploded overnight, but it seems there was time to deal with this before getting to *waves around*.

I still stand by […]

There is so much shit going on and so many beautiful things.

When I log on here I have the feeling some are hellbent on parsing every good thing to the smallest detail to finally pop up and, dripping triumph, shout "Ha! I told ya! This is ALSO shit".

And as I write this I am now deeply aware […]

Remind me not to share good news here. It just gets spat on.

Seriously, folks, take the wins when they come. Stop whining.

Or would you rather they don't come?

The boomer energy of starting an online meeting ALWAYS 4/5 minutes before the start time. So everybody gets a fucking notification.

It's from how much these little things tick me off that I know I need a vacation more than anything.

When we bought this house we bought also a very big greenhouse that I'm slowly starting to use.
But now I have to learn how to take it apart, because ants found their way into one of the polycarbonate panels (they all have some trapped insect or dirt - mostly […]

Me working in an institutional space program, watching a movie about space:

"What? Everybody does everything? They plan the spacecraft, they build the spacecraft, they fly the spacecraft? 5 people running the whole thing? That's so unrealistic!"

Me, working for a newspace company: "Ah." (pours […]

If you have cool stickers, use them. Put them on things. Be carelessly joyful about using your stickers. If you die with a collection of dozens of cool stickers that you never used, you did it wrong.

Finally unsubscribed the new York times.

I jailbroke my old kindle (KV), just because I can, but also because I thought of using it as a wall display.
But the experience of running side-loaded content is so nice, and it's so fast compared to the eink android tablet I am usually reading on that I might put it in service again as a […]

There's no shortage of signs (passive aggressive or plain aggressive) against dogs pooping.
There are no signs against dumping food on the street or hidden in bushes.
I don't want to fight with my dog to wrestle food out of his mouth, but I don't want him to eat random shit. It's scary because I […]

Dear #macos

How can I tell you that I never, NEVER, want to launch "Apple Music" when I wear or remove headphones?

The aggressive pushing of default apps will be leading me to an early death by fucking rage. I cannot deal with any major OS these days.

Because nothing says "quiet sunday" like migrating server and zigbee coordinator in one fell swoop 2 hours before a dinner at the inlaws.

Why do I do this again?

I tried ventoy. It's practical. And the USB stick can be used for other things too. I kept an extra partition on it, so that I can mount if even if I booted something off ventoy.

I just signed up for my local #library. As a child, my home town did not have a library. My parents di *A LOT* to guide my growth, but somehow finding a library was never a thing.
I also used to think that in this day and age, a library is somewhat superfluous. It's not. It so is not.

It was […]

I wish that every electricity bill wouldn't say that "2500 kWh" is the average yearly energy usage for a 2 persons households. I mean, it's probably true, but most people heat with gas or oil. Those "benchmarks" tables are subtly telling people to minimize the share of their power usage that is […]

I have a #zigbee power plug that turns off for no reason. It was a batch of 2, both with that problem, but I lost track of one.

Browsing local classifieds (kleinanzeigen) for a new-used home server, I found a local company that buys and refurbishes B and C ware. It's amazing how the price point for 6 years old hardware is now the same of those for 16 years old hardware, just because they slap a "RETRO" label on them and […]
