In the mid 80's I was using X-10 power line devices. Started replacing them in 2016 with Sonoff Wi-Fi switch using Domoticz which handled the Wi-Fi devices and the old X-10 gear. Now there are no more power line devices, but a Palm Pad RF remote is still around; everyone understands how to use it!
