These are related to the Central Altlantic Magmatic Province (CAMP) volcanism that occurred when Pangea broke up.

This is my definition of a paradise for structural geologists: the Tellaro Fault near La Spezia shearing the Triassic-Jurassic limestones of the Tuscan Nappe!
