Controversial #Valencian #architect #SantiagoCalatrava designed the #ciudaddelesartesylasciencias #cityofartsandsciences in the former #riverbed and it is truly impressive, in an #epcotcenter kind of way.

The #RiverTuria had a tendency to flood so it was rerouted south of #Valencia. The government wanted to put a freeway but the activists common to the city said "no, we want a park" and now nearly 10 km of green space is dedicated to soccer fields, playgrounds, art, and nature!

The other remaining gate to the old city of #Valencia and you can see how tall the walls were (4m I think). These two towers survived only because they served as prisons.
