I think it would make logical sense to be evaluated this way, but the language for restarting the tiebreaker seems to require eliminating a team from a tie, rather than advancing one, in all cases.

It looks like this is still the case in some scenarios? In this case, as no team in the 3-way is "eliminated" it should go to the metrics tiebreaker, rather than advancing Duke and breaking the SMU-Pitt tie by common opponents.
