Was reality of the situation - a cultural moment not to be reflected in proper history records, but as a Trontonian at the time, I was embarrassed.

People talking about 'vote splitting' are always partisans for one of the two main parties. Have heard this same refrain all my life - sorry, Canada is a parliamentary democracy. We don't need to mimic the USA with its two party duopoly.

Bizarre post - the typical non-American is quite familiar with the USA, size / distances / etcetera. There is NO widespread foreign puzzlement of 'why are Americans not repeatedly going to Washington DC to protest'.

Where on earth did you get the idea that the commentator was expecting people to go to your country's capital?

The US has a population/military that dwarfs Canada so it is a given that the US will quickly enough occupy Canada... then the fun & games begin because I understand the long-term occupation yardstick is 1 soldier per 50 people, meaning the US must commit 800,000 troops and suffer continual losses.

We're a multi-party parliamentary democracy, unlike the States. The only people that can vote for Mark Carney will be persons in the riding in which he runs.

Tory, Grit, Green, NDP, BQ supporters will vote for the candidate in their riding.

Exactly - Musk is a birthright citizen of Canada and South Africa. Only he can renounce such, neither governments nor people have any right to remove such.

His American citizenship is by naturalisation, very different story. An American petition would make more sense.

OK you're angry - I'm angry too - but this idea of taking away someone's birthright citizenship is dangerous. No more dual citizens at all? That is Trump-talk.

By birth, Musk is Canadian and South African,

By naturalisation (and despite apparently having originally been an illegal immigrant), Musk is American.
February 24, 2025 at 2:11 PM
While I can certainly sympathise with anger against Musk, this petition is misguided and dangerous. He is Canadian by birth, that cannot be revoked. If it could then we are all at risk of having our citizenships revoked at somebody's whim...
