Our recent study uncovers epicotyl physiological dormancy in Quercus sagrana, the only Caribbean oak and a vulnerable endemic from western Cuba. Its desiccation-sensitive acorns germinate fast but delay shoot emergence, aiding seedling survival in dry tropics.

Our latest paper challenges a long-held view: Germination isn’t complete at radicle emergence—it continues until the first true leaf emerges. This highlights the overlooked epicotyl dormancy, which is key in species ranging from oaks to mangroves.

Do you study plant functional traits, but are limited only to #VegetativeTraits due to the lack of standardized protocols for #RegenerativeTraits?

You don't need to struggle—our new handbook with standardized methods is now available as a preprint doi.org/10.32942/X27...

Our latest study confirms that Martynia annua (an invasive species) produces physiologically dormant seeds; its woody endocarp does not prevent water uptake, but delays germination, and seeds remain viable for over a year, fueling their invasive potential.
