Before; I definitely had it in HS

Is the music by Pantera?

The thing is if you put a pair of round headlights on it, gave it eyes, it would look fine

As it is?

He does jam it in later, after musty old hall, dragging it out to three syllables. He might have made Zug Island work in the meter but it’s definitely not as poetic

Excellent episode, thanks—very much enjoyed it

This is fascinating—this is a word I (US, Gen X) don’t think I’ve ever heard before, in any context
November 10, 2025 at 11:26 PM
Oh right did they ever explain that? It seemed like a portent

Goddamn them all

To say I’ve cared about it my entire life would be a lie because it didn’t happen until I was 2

Since then, though…

It’s 50 years on from the day the Fitzgerald went down with all 29 men aboard. What’s crazy is that iron ore shipping still looks much the same as it did then. Here is the SS Wilfred Sykes, one of the ships that went looking for the Fitz that night, moving through a winter storm just yesterday.

Deep, deep thought. Deepest in North America.

The M pars and throwing stars win this contest hands down. Shoutout to the Fuchs 19s on the F80, though, for being both good looking and quite light and strong.

These are probably my two favorite albums in tournament. For me, anyway, this is the finals.

I’d be interested to know which I’ve played more over the years, but I bet it’s Technique.

I get what everyone is saying about NIN being the future, but I think I still prefer NO here.

Did they achieve it? I don’t know yet. No one does. But criticizing them for voting to end the shutdown without an ACA extension is like criticizing the Dodgers for failing to sweep the World Series with a series of grand slam homers. It was astoundingly unlikely to happen that way.

Here the victory condition for the Ds was “raise the salience of the decision the Rs made back in March, make sure people know who to blame for healthcare costs.”
November 10, 2025 at 4:39 PM
Government shutdowns are a dumb blunt instrument. They are very bad at creating targeted leverage that produces specific policy outcomes. You need to have something less than “we win, other side folds” as a victory condition or you shouldn’t play the game
November 10, 2025 at 4:37 PM
Respectfully if that’s the only way to achieve victory then victory is impossible. You cannot expect federal workers to work without pay indefinitely, or to simply quit and find new jobs; that is not reasonable.

I mean…sort of, yes?

Regardless, due to improvements in weather forecasting, navigation, and safety practices, none of these boats have been lost since.

Lightfoot would change that lyric when he later performed the song live.

No one knows what actually caused the wreck; some speculate the ship hit shoals in the storm, while others suggest it may have just been metal fatigue and a problem with the design. Or simply a rogue wave.
November 10, 2025 at 3:00 PM
In the pic you can see the hundreds of clamps that hold the cargo hatches closed. In Lightfoot’s song, one of these hatches caved in. This was an early theory but quickly the maritime community made clear that a boat like this would never sail in November with those clamps less than fully secure.
