Pokémon at its core is meant to be anime-styled. Attempts at real looking creatures can be cute, but do not belong in main series titles in my opinion. Pokémon should be colorful above all else, and all attempts at real looking Pokémon have reduced Pokémon's colorful identity for the worse.

You would think so, but Game Freak chose to have some of the Y Mega Pokémon reference Xerneas instead and vice versa. This, combined with the strange, contradictory origins of Mega Evolution, make the whole thing messy in my opinion!

That's an interesting idea, but the Red/Blue theory for connecting back to Xerneas/Yveltal was observably incorrect even during Gen 6. Mega Charizard X has Red eyes, but Mega Mewtwo X has Blue eyes. More recently, Mega Raichu Y has Blue eyes and Mega Raichu X has Red eyes. Mega Evolution is a mess!

If you're a believer of the Ultimate Weapon creating Area Zero, this idea is even more ridiculous. Paldea is just south of Kalos, if they use real world region locations. This means the distance the arc travels is miniscule, which means even less opportunities to charge space debris.

Even if there were rocks floating around in space, the arc of the Ultimate Weapon is the size of one town. This theory suggests that every Mega Stone we've seen in the entire series was floating around in space above the original Ultimate Weapon, then fell on two different regions a globe apart.

And there aren't random rocks floating around in space when the Ultimate Weapon fires either. Gravity prevents rocks from orbiting in space for very long. And even if they were up there, they'd have to travel around the globe from France to fall in Japan after being singed by the arc of the Weapon.

The Ultimate Weapons range cannot be that large. There is no possible way. I think a lot of people say this as an excuse. If you are a person that believes that the Pokémon regions are roughly in the same place as the real world, you're saying the arc from France reaches Japan somehow.

That could be the case, but many of the letter shaped Megas that were introduced in Hoenn have no ties to Kalos, Xerneas/Yveltal, or the Ultimate Weapon.

I'm currently in the middle of writing a video about all of this, but Mega Evolution's lore is incredibly sloppy with the illusion of depth.

That's the thing though. XY establishes that Mega Evolution originates from Xerneas/Yveltal and the Ultimate Weapon firing. But that's not true, due to Mega Rayquaza and Mega Stones naturally appearing in Hoenn and Kanto. The entire X/Y shape theory hinges on Xerneas and Yveltal's involvement.
November 7, 2025 at 1:44 AM
Right, though that's not the only origin. If it were, it would imply that the Ultimate Weapon was fired at minimum four times. Kalos (AZ), Hoenn, Kanto, and Kalos (Lysandre). Mega Stones and Mega Evolutions form in more ways than just the Ultimate Weapon as well, as seen with Mega Rayquaza.

This is an interesting theory, but it doesn't explain why Mega Evolution is in Hoenn and Kanto. All of the lore around Mega Evolution is so messy and inconsistent though. I'd definitely be interested in seeing Z or Flower shaped Mega designs though!

I don't see how people could complain about DLC before they know it exists. If people didn't know Z-A was getting DLC, then they couldn't complain about it for the months leading up to it and they'd be more likely to judge the game itself on actual problems it has instead of the pre-planned DLC!
November 6, 2025 at 3:07 AM
That's probably true! At least withholding the DLC announcement until later would give us a few months of engagement with the ACTUAL game instead of anticipation for DLC! As it stands, many people seem to feel that Z-A is an incomplete experience, which isn't wrong given the DLC story announcement!
November 6, 2025 at 1:14 AM
That's true! But that's why I said they shouldn't REVEAL the DLC before the game releases. DLC in Pokémon can be a good thing for the reasons you described, but actually showing it before the game is out is an awful decision because it makes people feel like content was cut for DLC purposes.

I wonder if the benches in the other dimension will also be anti-homeless benches?
November 5, 2025 at 5:02 PM
If Game Freak didn't reveal the DLC before the game even released, many people wouldn't be so confused about this. I don't believe there were this many similar takes with the SWSH and SV DLC. The optics of revealing DLC for a game that isn't out yet are AWFUL and Game Freak should know better.

Happy Birthday! Also, congratulations on getting that Kotaku interview!

I don't want to sound completely negative though! New Lewtwo content is always a cause to celebrate! Will watch soon! Even though I've completely lost my faith in Game Freak, I still have hopes that Pokémon will continue to thrive. Fan projects like Lumi will always keep the spirit of Pokémon alive!

This video will make Game Freak look worse in the long run. That's probably not what you intended, but the state of the game and the leaked dev cost make this "savior" of modern Pokémon look pitiful.

Maybe your video will convince me otherwise, but the leaked state of the game killed my hope in GF.
