Tankers were always leaving Venezuela but going to China not the US.
Do you know if the ones leaving now are headed for the US?
They may well be but the quantity is small compared to what the US administration would like.

Rebuilding infrastructure is going to cost someone a huge sum of money.

Not forgetting that the regime in Venezuela is the same people just a different leader.
Unless all of them were pretending to be faithful to Maduro then there will be some in government who will be actively working against Trumps plans.
January 6, 2026 at 7:31 PM
I’ve seen reports (in the uk) that the investment needed to restore infrastructure in Venezuela is prohibitively high.
US corporations won’t swallow this financial hit.

So are US tax payers going to have to pay for this? Will energy prices go up for US consumers to pay for access to Venezuelan oil?
January 6, 2026 at 12:30 PM
Our government don’t care about Venezuelans. They’re happy to turn a blind eye to the US carving up South America amongst its cronies & corporations.
Much like the Middle East.

When we expect the US to protect & respect their allies they aren’t interested.

Mothball European US military bases.

Isn’t this a conflict of interests? How is this ok?

I do wonder how the Labour MPs that used to call out the tories for cronyism and lobbying sleep at night?

Con merchants, all of them.

lol ok

Democracy by any kind of utopian definition is unattainable.

However, democracy does exist in most countries that hold elections, barring obvious exceptions. Even the most robust elections fall victim to interference.

From gerrymandering to internet algorithms.
Democracy is not a pure concept.

Deleted the comment and reposted without whatever the fuck that was.

Did you just turn this into a dick swinging competition?

You know more than I do. You win. Happy now?

But no apology for calling a stranger naive? No?

I shared the link because it’s a beautiful & interesting example of people power.
We can learn so much from that.

Just read the article x
January 5, 2026 at 6:43 PM
I have literally no idea how that got there!!!!!
What the actual fuck is that even 🤷‍♀️
January 5, 2026 at 6:42 PM
I’ve not parroted anything.

I’ve never referenced Russian or any other election interference.
You’re projecting on to me.

I know that since the advent of the internet it’s become easier for covert political interferences to operate.
Can you guess who’s most likely to take advantage of this?
January 5, 2026 at 6:40 PM
You might find this article interesting. I’ve no reason not to trust their journalism. I started reading the guardian in my teens and I’m now 58.
I’ve seen a hell of a lot of politics over the years so definitely not ‘naive’.
You’ve no reason to be unkind to me.

You’d think her and Trump would be best pals 😉
January 5, 2026 at 5:40 PM
And yet the Venezuelans voted for her party to get rid of the socialists.

Go figure!

I’m not so sure either option best serves the Venezuelan people. Like most governments (of all political shades) there’s corruption, greed & opacity.
Something about politics brings out the worse of human nature.

True

The US are a rogue state.

I’ve said for years they shouldn’t have military bases in Europe. I supported Greenham Common demonstrations and I think the ‘special relationship’ is BS

There’s not much I would thank the US for.
Maybe Prince… some other music… not much else I can think of 😉
January 5, 2026 at 5:24 PM
I literally copied and pasted my previous comment.

You’re welcome to prove me wrong, but you aren’t going to do that are you? Because you can’t.

Go be petty somewhere else please, I’ve no patience for this silliness.
January 5, 2026 at 5:19 PM
Oh yes they are 🤭😆

Please do show me where I said otherwise.
January 5, 2026 at 5:14 PM
In essence I completely agree.

The situation in Venezuela is much more nuanced.
Maduro rigging an election.
So it’s good for Venezuelan democracy to remove his regime, but definitely not for the reasons the Whitehouse are using.
So yeah, imperialism is bad but so is any corrupt regime.
January 5, 2026 at 5:12 PM
“ Maduro held an election but rigged his victory.
The opposition leader had to go into hiding - remember that woman who won the Nobel peace prize?”

Those are the words I posted.

Where did I say she was the candidate?
I’m not going to argue this further with you, it’s facile & pointless.
January 5, 2026 at 5:06 PM
I agree, however the uk would be up shit creek without EU membership.
We have no bargaining power or real influence outside the bloc.

Interestingly UN Security Council just said it wants rid of Maduro but wants a legitimate elected government reflecting will of Venezuelans.
Not what 🍊 is offering.
January 5, 2026 at 5:01 PM
Like I said, if you want to discuss Venezuela let’s do that
