Main reason is almost entirely based on the inherent accuracy of bolt actions. Modern smokeless powder propelled cartridges are quite clean burning. For example, an AR-15 doesn't need to be cleaned for hundreds of rounds, more than a lot of hunters will shoot throughout all of their hunts.
