we are looking respectfully 👀

In our most recent feedback session, one person commented that we pick a lot of sad/dark stories and requested that we picked some happier options.

That note haunts us all the time while we continue to pick the highest melancholy-per-word ratio we can find. Happy stories eventually, but not today.

Today's slate of stories that are unsettling (complimentary):

"Happily Ever After Comes Round" by Sarah Rees Brennan
"The Magician’s Apprentice" by Tamsyn Muir
"Mavka" by A.D Sui

If you're not a cannibalism fan, our next session (ancestral ghosts of people who *weren't* eaten, probably) is October 15: check the thread for details.

You can also join our previous session on baseball stories: www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/co...

it looks like the right signature to me! (whether the two uses of A are the same handwriting font size is a different question)

Anyway: hi! We want short fiction recs all the time. The best way to make sure we see them is to drop by the monthly r/Fantasy threads, but maybe we'll start finding recs here too.

(Does anyone have cool cannibalism or "what the fuck (complimentary)" stories to share, for no particular reason)

We hang out primarily on r/Fantasy, which is where we met.

This account is (inconsistently) monitored, but we do check notifications when @nineteenadze.bsky.social remembers! The goal for season four is to do stuff like "post announcements on time" and "have a social media presence at all."
