One day until showtime.

After a couple months @orinkerr.bsky.social did us a massive solid with this blog post (back when the VC was at the WaPo). Subscribers poured in. Later Eugene V very kindly let us cross-post the newsletter there. And the rest, as a certain other podcast says, is history. 5/

The newsletter at first was 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦 a newsletter. You had to subscribe to read. We didn’t post on IJ’s website and we didn't yet post at @volokhc.bsky.social's famous blog either. Here’s the contents of the first email. 3/

10 years ago today, Feb 13, 2015, @ij.org published our 1st Short Circuit newsletter. Thanks to all who have read @johnkennethross.bsky.social's weekly work since the beginning (the few the proud!) or have joined along the way. Here's a short 🧵down memory lane (this is our original webpage). 1/

Interestingly, Mr. Darcy does NOT wear a Christmas sweater in the BOOK Bridget Jones’s Diary. First published in 1996 it says the sweater was “actually a V-neck diamond-patterned in shades of yellow and blue—as favored by the more elderly of the nation’s sports reporters.” 5/6

Some point to this scene in Bridget Jones’s Diary, which premiered in 2001, as launching the trend. The sweater is, of course, awful, and we are supposed to think Mr. Darcy looks ridiculous because of it. Even so, Bridget is the one who walks away a fool (or so she thinks). 3/6
