We started the morning with President Trump’s Truth Social post— the US reached a trade deal with Japan, with the US cutting tariffs on car and car parts to 15%, and across-the-board tariffs to 15%.

The decision marks Japan’s most significant step toward reviving atomic power since the meltdown accident in Fukushima. Like in many other countries, the government is backing nuclear energy to meet an expected rise in electricity demand from the AI boom over the next decade.

Kansai’s decision would make it the first step toward constructing a new reactor in Japan since the 2011 Fukushima disaster.
