Perhaps distil the the ideas - agency, pride, strength etc. and find the progressive examples of those traits. Find the ‘strong’ characters who exemplify those traits with better objectives. They will be there and need to be actively recruited. Somethings ‘good’ needs to be fought for.

I think the first step is to stop looking for the reason in external influences (or lack of them). Many will be attracted to the right because they like it. Trying to change the things people intuitively like is a long and possibly fruitless task. Anyway, there isn’t time.
