I live in Birmingham. I like books and comedy and podcasts. Also nature and that. Obsessed with rubbish. Learning to sew.
This weekend I finally finished the Factory dress by Merchant and Mills. The collar was FIDDLY, and there’s still a couple of little tucks left under it, so don’t look too close. But it’s comfy to wear and will do nicely as a light work dress, so a success. AND IT HAS POCKETS #garmentsewing

Excited to catch Mick Herron talking about the new Slough House book at the North Wall Arts Centre in Oxford this evening 📚💙

After seeing it a couple of times on here, I was inspired to make the Gladys top by Stitch Witch. First time doing princess seams, bagging out and little thin straps. Really pleased with it, a lovely little top for my daughter to go clubbing in

I’m loving this series so much. It’s providing much-needed comfort and escapism 📚💙

First attempt at princess seams. I think it’s turned out surprisingly well. Woo-hoo! New skill unlocked #garmentsewing

Reading now. It’s set in the summer of 1976 so has felt appropriate for the past few days 📚💙

Reading now. Mendelson has a real talent for writing monstrous, narcissistic characters. (I found the husband in The Exhibitionist enjoyably appalling too.) 📚💙

Oh, and I had a trip out to Warwick Arts Centre at the weekend to watch The Ballad of Wallis Island but the only photo I took was of this weirdo in the shopping centre in Coventry

Today I finished my third garment and my first with a zip: the Eve trousers by Merchant & Mills in a teal cotton twill. Struggled a bit with the sizing but pretty pleased with them overall #garmentsewing #sewsky

Now rereading this for my book club. Hope it’s as good as I remember because it was me who recommended it! 📚💙

Just finished reading this: a sad but lightly told story about a young refugee’s relationship with his flawed, feisty grandmother. German original borrowed from the Goethe-Institut e-library and English translation given to me by @heavenalibooks.bsky.social

I borrowed this book from the library. Such beautiful clothes. Most of them are completely beyond me at present, but it’s nice to daydream about having the skills to make them one day #sewsky

Reading now: I can hear this in the author’s voice 📚💙

Reading now. I’m glad it’s short because the narrator’s head is not a fun place to be 📚💙

Reading now for my book club. I’m finding it a bit genteel after the murder and mayhem of my last two books 📚💙

Reading now. It’s dark but very readable and grimly humorous 📚💙

Reading now. I’m finding it gripping and entertaining. Unsuitable for dog-lovers, though 📚💙
