One of the coolest things I experienced firsthand as a children's book author was that younger readers are drawn to illustrated covers (mostly those 10yo and below) while older kids (11+) prefer 'grown-up' covers. Thus, my 'Fire and Tide' books will have both, in paperback & hardcover.
