6AM Wanshi/Eric(ocskk) drabble that I didn't proofread and definitely has poor sentencing in various parts
It was late into the evening. Nanyun's flower festival has come to an end, and the townsfolk and research team had all gone to bed. They were due to depart back to Babylonia the following day, but Wanshi is still awake. Hunched over the desk in his temporary quarters, the white-haired construct is jotting down a few more notes from the texts he had borrowed from Wan's grandfather. Even though Nanyun was going through some humid weather, the nights still brought an occasional chill. Wanshi feels a cold breeze blow in through the gap in the window, but it is soon replaced by warmth that wraps around his shoulders. There was only one other person in this room who'd be awake at this hour. "Eric? Shouldn't you be asleep?" A hum follows as Wanshi feels a gentle weight rest on his head, nuzzling into the soft curls. What follows is a barely audible whisper. "I had a nightmare." Wanshi closes the book and his terminal in favor of turning around in his seat to face the Gray Raven Commandant, properly. The man, having stepped back to give Wanshi space, had a loose blanket wrapped around his thin and lean frame. His messy, gray hair was let loose from the usual ponytail, barely covering his scarred neck. The moonlight streaming into their room highlighted Eric's pale skin and the dark circles under his eyes, worrying signs of poor health from overwork and lack of sleep. Wanshi instinctively takes Eric's hand and pulls him close, wrapping his arms around the thin waist before looking up into those dull, lilac eyes. "Do you want to talk about it?" "…" The silence seems to drag on, Eric seemingly forgetting how to speak as he barely opens his mouth before quickly closing it again. Wanshi patiently waits for the other to gather his thoughts. He has to turn up his hearing module to make out the words as Eric starts to speak. "The world was frozen, with not a soul in sight. I walked with no goal in mind, until I eventually exhausted my strength. And I-" A pause. "I died. Cold. And alone." Wanshi draws in a breath, eyes wide as the 'memory' he experienced not so long ago flashes through his mind. A memory of a 'future' where the world froze over and he found the Commandant in a frozen coffin. That time, Wanshi had saved him. But… He hugs the man in a tighter embrace, as if the tiny flame before him would be snuffed out if he lets go. He feels a hand pat his head. Whether it was to comfort him or the hand's owner, neither could say. "Sorry, should I not have said anything?" Wanshi shakes his head. "I was the one who asked." Eric starts humming a lullaby. Wanshi silently wishes this rare moment he has alone with the Commandant could last longer. Where he can feel the human's warmth, the comfort that comes with their presence. Hearing the tune that helps lull him to sleep. But it eventually comes to an end as Eric breaks the silence once more. "Wanshi?" Wanshi hums in response. "I'm cold." "Then shouldn't you go back to bed, under the covers? I can close the window if-" Wanshi looks up from the embrace to see desperate eyes staring back. Oh. Wanshi is amused as the human struggles to find the right words to say, their usually placid expression morphing between shyness, embarassment, and want. "…Will you warm me up?" The construct is quick to stand from his seat, effortlessly picking up the other before walking towards their shared bed. Eric's eyes are squeezed shut when Wanshi leans down to kiss into soft locks, and don't open again until he's placed onto the mattress where the White Hawk's golden eyes await him. "As long as you're with me, I'll make sure you never feel cold again."
