Gearing up for my first year at the OAA (okinawa association of america) Craft Fair!

My therapist apparently has been learning about my chronic illnesses on her own time to better understand what I'm dealing with and I could CRY, I'm so grateful

I am now on the hunt for this exact textile (I was told it's dyed with sugarcane juice AND it's gettou/sannin/shell ginger, which I have desperately been trying to grow for the past two years) and an Okinawan jubako (I have a Japanese jubako and have been wondering if there were Okinawan ones!)
A dark green, rectangular piece of fabric hung from a wall with text out of the frame on its left side. On the fabric is a pattern of long, skinny, darker green leaves and four shell ginger flowers, which are long clusters of hanging pink and white buds. At the base of each flower cluster, some of the buds have bloomed and are yellow on the inside. A two tiered lacquer box with a lid on a yellow square of fabric. The box is bright red and has images of banana leaves and banana bunches on the lid and on each tier of the box. The leaves come from the edges and point towards the middle.

Visited the Okinawa Memories Initiative exhibit on Okinawan food culture at UCSC yesterday. They did such an amazing job, I took pictures of every single thing there. And they made goya champuru!

The one in focus is a recipe for jīmāmi tofu, or tofu made out of peanuts instead of soy beans. It has the ingredients and directions listed and a picture of a square serving of jīmāmi tofu in a blue dish.

Thought I was too tired to celebrate soogwachi, but rallied and made black sesame mochi (some filled with sesame paste, but got overwhelmed by sticky fingers and rolled the rest in sesame seeds)

This sleepy baby has been with us for a week now and I'm so happy about it. Too sick to get out of bed most days and I don't even care anymore because she's so snuggly
