Mistake: Bruno Hauptmann, not Richard🥲

I'm sorry, it's just.... well, I'm kinda sad about it.

My mom's just done with all of it, she's given up... but my brother and I are sad that something so strange and unique---a testament to the humanity of someone who may've been wrongfully executed--- will become lost forever.

It looks like Richard Hauptmann has no living relatives, and all contacts from museums/etc. recommend is that we try the police museum. We feel that it'd be a slap in the face of Hauptmann, something he made on death row being displayed right next to the electric chair that killed him.

My mom is the reason her grandma kept it, but her mother snatched it up (seems mostly because she wanted to make money off of it) and kept it in her flood-prone basement until her death. It's not in the best shape now, but we kept it.

But my mom's probably going to throw it out today...

Well, our family had an interesting connection to the case. My mom's great grandfather worked in the prison he was being held in. Hauptmann was a woodsmith/carpenter, and he made a miniature church during his time there. We've had it in our family since then...

So he was executed via electric chair. There's still a lot of doubt surrounding the case. Evidence had been withheld/tampered with. Some believe Hauptmann was just a scapegoat to close the case.
