A hot day in June four years ago, where I marched alongside @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, not realizing I was next to NYC's future mayor.

Incredible #NoKings rally in Port Jefferson Station! Great work by the organizers, and a huge crowd, rain and all! Honored to speak to the crowd and sing together.

With the horrific news coming out of Minnesota, it's clear that we must continue to work for the America deserve.

Waking up to the headlines this morning of the GOP bill that guts the social safety net to give tax breaks to billionaires, and then reading about the murder of two Jews at the American Jewish Committee in DC, is basically just a capstone of the trauma that it is to be an American right now. 🧵

We've been fighting for funding for child care assistance programs and funding for the child care workforce. New York is a wealthy state. Everyone deserves affordable child care and the educators caring for kids deserve a living wage.
In today's @timesunion.com :
"More than 10 upstate counties will close key child care assistance programs by June, the result of a funding shortfall that advocates have said is up to New York leaders to backfill in the state budget."

It was an honor to join so many amazing people at one of several #handsoff rallies in Suffolk County! Let's keep showing up, speaking out, and standing up for justice together!

This is how it's done! Columbia University, take note. You could learn a thing or two from public schools.

Proud to speak about protecting children and families at the People's Town Hall in Suffolk County yesterday!

Not much to see. Just me holding up a giant inflatable baby.
Big baby, big need! Childcare is barely standing in the state of New York. We need to fund the workforce and pass Universal Childcare. Getting childcare should be as easy as sending your kid to a school!

Child care advocates plead New York to address funding shortage
There appears to be significant movement on at least one of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s top demands: a bell-to-bell cell phone ban in schools.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

I answer the critically important question, "HOW DO WE SLOW DOWN TRUMP?"

Here are 7 meaningful things we can do to fight back.

There's no quick fix, but with collective efforts, we can make progress. And yes, it requires Dem Leadership to Wake the ---- UP.

There is no path to universal child care that doesn't justly compensate the child care workforce.
“Compensation for the child care workforce must be prioritized. We cannot improve access for families without fair compensation for the early childhood workforce," said Shoshana Hershkowitz, campaign manager for the Empire State Campaign for Child Care.

I've had some restless nights this past week as the inauguration looms. I've felt frustrated seeing the capitulation from local elected Democrats. And it's made me think a lot about what I want to devote my energy toward. 🧵

Today the presidential election will be certified for Donald Trump. There will not be an insurrection, because the seditionists are happy with the results. Today will look like business as usual, but we shouldn't forget the violence four years ago. 🧵

Incredibly disturbing to see this attempt to curb free speech in my county. Even more disturbing that legislators in both parties supported this with a unanimous vote. This is not what democracy looks like.

It feels difficult to muster that New Year's energy leaving a difficult 2024 and entering what is going to be an even more difficult 2025. I'm sad about the shape we're in as a nation and of the state of the world. I'm very worried about what lies ahead. 🧵

Virtually every question today at the WH Press briefing was about the Hunter pardon, as if that is the thing the American people care about most right now. The DC press is so disconnected from the American public and serves them poorly more often than not.
