I agree that our translations collide with Nii sensei's statement, but I believe that they were accurate with respect to the language and terms used, and if anything, it shows how gender identity is nuanced in a country like japan and with a language that is not genderized as the italian language!

it happens in the italian translation too! but I think it's a very nuanced topic, in japanese tsubaki is never referred to with either male or female pronouns (people use either tsubaki or "that person") and uses atashi (that is not exclusively female but is generally not used by boys)
