Pre-lighting: behind the scenes of final photos

Shellyss Studio // Hibernation 2024 SAD NEWS? It's Time for Indefinite Commission Break My physical disabilities have been flaring up at an alarming rate and I can't keep up with my body, recover from grief, or tend to the stress of solving intricate custom designs on the tight timeframe required for price accessibility As each project is custom and begins with a consultation and design drafts, the timeframes are too varied and unstable for my current life needs. These projects currently take all of my studio time and severely reduce my capacity for other avenues of work, study, and exploration. As I continue finding sustainable paths for my life and community roles, I'm re-establishing priorities to fit my current capacity, schedule, responsibilities, and goals. I love to initiate trades at markets, and am hopeful to continue extending trading skills, services, and creations into my daily life. Hiatus Info!

This year, I’m having hellish and long flare-ups and must retreat and restore after this last project. But I have updates! I’ll be prepping opportunities to collect and subscribe to my work over hibernation. I have lots of physical and digital work to do to build the collections and set the foundation. I hope to open subscriptions by late February. (Two photos show: on the left the texture of a carved and glazed pot. On the right, a digital drawing of my ‘turtlesaur’ community tier for subscriptions.) I’m also planning batches of preferred items. My most recent ceramic project, right at the start of glazing. This commission will be the last for a while.
On the left, a patty pan squash-shaped teapot can be seen with a segmented branch-shaped handle. The body of the teapot is yellow-brown, with a green handle and pourover lip visible, and the lid painted with a clear glaze that dries opaque white before firing. On the right, a watermelon slice centerpiece can be seen with a middle cutout for holding napkins, and seed holes for holding cut flowers. This piece has three lids for accessing the inside to add water or store other items, and seed shapes strewn across the piece. The body is the same yellow-brown as the teapot, with a white pith, varied green rind, and purple-grey seeds. The same centerpiece from the first photo, now in focus to show the watermelon flesh texture and spotlight the details in the piece.
