I mean, “tampon” was originally a word for a medical plug that eventually got applied to those for menstrual use. (The objects are not interchangeable. You do NOT want to put a Tampax in a bullet wound or any other.) But as you pointed out, menstrual tampons, by whatever name, have a long history.

A couple of my brother’s classmates headed off to a really small college and they worked out which tall tales about Alaska they were going to tell on campus before they left.
