Assuming energy demand doesn't increase, which it does. While we should deploy solar and wind we should also realize that on global level they aren't offsetting fossil fuels but rather just covers the yearly increasing demand for energy at best.

But isn't China subsidizing the cost of solar panels to make them artificially cheap? What I mean by that is that while solar panels have gotten cheaper I don't think we should assume that they get that much cheaper than now. They might even get more expensive.

Well it's a universal truth that building anything (institutions, buildings, trust etc) is hard and requires a lot of energy, time and investment but destroying it is really easy in comparison.
