Honestly, I can not get enough of these Japanese cheesecakes. Worth the trip to Sydney just for one of these. Canberra, you need to up your game!

Well, this was completely whacky, and marvellous, and Emma Stone should definitely win an Oscar.

A book group book. Written by an ANU academic this book gives first hand insight into climate change science & the IPCC process while at the same time documenting the emotional, philosophical, and political journey of a climate scientist. At once disheartening and uplifting.

I’m not usually into historical fiction & this was no exception. Beautifully written, well researched telling of Mrs Touchet, the cousin/housekeeper/lover of Victorian novelist William Ainsworth. But never really drew me completely in to world and it’s characters.

I’m heading off on a work trip. Scruff always gets sad when he sees a suitcase. The side eye!

Part memoir, part philosophy, part science comm: but most definitely not a wellness/self-help book (“happiness as a goal is a rort”). This exploration of vulnerability, love & introspection is compelling as is the understanding of trauma & complex PTSD. Filled with hope & trademark self-deprecation

This is Morrison’s only short story & it’s a doozy! It tells the stories of Twyla & Roberta who have known one another since they were 8 in an orphanage. We know the girls are different races, but we don’t know who is which. Morrison plays with us: exploring and subverting racial norms & stereotypes

Bags packed, on the bus to the airport. Holiday time! Any guesses where I’m headed?

A coming of age novel following The Girl, A Malaysian-Chinese Australian writer on residency in the UK. Marketed as adult fiction,
it felt more YA - or maybe I’m just old and crusty and out of touch. Some moments of beautiful introspection but felt overly earnest. Bah Humbug.

I 1st thought this book wouldn’t be my sort of thing: a middle-aged women’s memoir about her divorce. But turns out it was exactly my thing. Snapshot vignettes, fierce love for her children, frustration, bewilderment, anger, wry observation & oh so much laughter. As close to poetry as prose can get
