As a site reliability engineer, I've noticed an increase in the number of seemingly sophisticated DDOS attacks recently, which I believe are orchestrated by AI. People like me who are responsible for keeping applications running may have to up our security game.

I think this is another instance of the prejudice that some people on the east and west coasts hold against the majority of Americans who live in what they call "flyover states." It's just lazy thinking, like most prejudices.

I think it's more likely that they'll just try to spin things the way they always do, minimizing everything that looks bad for Trump or Bannon or MAGA's allies while ramping up the finger-pointing rants about Bill Clinton and any Democrats mentioned in the Epstein files.

A lot of it it is just good old-fashioned negativity bias, which is a perennial human trait:

We need to recognize that the terms "left" and "right" have no stable meaning. Some of Trump's actions would until recently have been coded "left": expanding the power of the federal government; raising taxes (aka tariffs); antivaxxer "wellness" crusades against Big Pharma and food additives.

It's great to see the large turnout. I just hope people follow through with all of the other organizing needed to change things. I've seen big rallies in the past that weren't followed by changes in government policy.

When I see someone say, "shut the fuck up," I always think, "There's someone skilled at persuasive communications."

It depends on the case. I know firsthand of multiple cases where police have solved homicides, but of course some crimes go unsolved, and sometimes they go after someone innocent. In the majority of cases the identity of the murderer is either obvious right away or becomes obvious fairly quickly.

Not really. We know he came from a Mormon, Republican family, but that doesn't necessarily tell us his personal beliefs. As an ex-Mormon myself, I know that apples don't always stay under their own tree, but that won't stop me from using this incident to call for an all-out war on Mormonism. ;-)
