I often say it’s like doing an abdominal assessment and coming up with the diagnosis of tummy ache! 😣

We are lucky- we have an ED consultant with us and he just phones people- they seem to have direct phones for SDEC etc which we don’t know about!

I would suggest using the SPOA team instead. We have a team of doctors and ACPs hanging out in ambulance offices pulling patients from the stack and offering alternatives to conveyance. Expert knowledge of community offers and non ED offers including urgent OPD/SDEC essential.

Excellent review. I run a hospital at home service and we talk about this often. Sometimes the staff and patients/carers want to iv because it makes them feel they’re doing their best!
