yeah, it was good at that part! but i feel like they weren't really confident in that and felt the need to overexplain a lot of things that would've been cooler without doing that and they wrote themselves into a lot of really avoidable corners

people love to say it got silly after the monty seasons but this stuff happened in the peak monty period lol. the trailers are basically pure vibes and the show was never really able to follow that up in the same way

this bit is basically all they said in the show, but yeah the official rule was just that all names have to remind you of a color in some way. your surname counts so if you're born in the right family you just never need to think about this at all which is bonkers

i enjoyed the show a lot but you seriously have to avoid trying to make any of the bigger picture stuff make any sense whatsoever, it only works on a vibes level

you can try to explain it away as ozpin sucking but after all these years i still clearly remember how much that one speech instantly sank my faith in the worldbuilding lol. there was absolutely no reason for that to be an in-universe thing
