Another note - the veteran population, (especially post-9/11) is a direct reflection of the US population (minus the ultra wealthy), which is obvious if you've ever served. A DNA database made up of veterans is a solid base on which to extrapolate for the entire country.

Also, for those who don't understand, this is a completely separate DNA collection from what is collected from active service members, which is specially for identification. The VA DNA database is to be used for analysis, as the article describes.
